Indigenous Featuring Mato Nanji

Body

Mato Nanji, guitarist/vocalist for Indigenous came into the international spotlight with the release of  Indigenous’ “Things We Do” record in the late 90’s. The band was constantly on the road building their brand resulting in their two most successful records reaching combined sales in the United States in excess of 200,000 units. Many guitar fans know Nanjo from his year on the Experience Hendrix Tour where Mato has been featured along with other guitar heroes including Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Robert Randolph. Mato is always quick to mentions what an honor and learning experience the tour has been for him. Regarding his first record for Blues Bureau International in 2012, Mato stated “I always want to approach each recording project in search of a different sound and voice that I’ve used before”. On his 8th commercial outing on Blues Bureau Intl, he does just that with help of producer Mike Varney. The new CD stretches Mato’s already established musicianship into a hard hitting, guitar driven package of musical excursions and playful songwriting. Joining Mato on the opening song is the soulful Jonny Lang.  “Free Yourself, Free Your Mind” is a hook laden track providing the groundwork for two true guitar masters to jam it out without borders or fences. “I’ve always wanted to do a project like this” says Nanji.  “These are good songs, done in a more musical way than any of my previous recordings” he says of working with Mike Varney.  “This cd is a mix of all of the CD's that I've done in the past, more of a Rootsy-Blues CD...mixture of influences Jr. Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, and the Red Devils to name a few. Showcasing a little more rock & blues, I had a great time making it!” “I’m looking forward to rocking these songs with the band out on the road”
