Rick Derringer first gained popularity in the McCoys with the chart topping tune “Hang On Sloopy” in 1965. In the following two decades, Derringer was the featured sideman for both the Winter Brothers, Johnny and Edgar, plus a very successful solo artist (“Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo”).The Blues Bureau International/Shrapnel release, “Back To The Blues”{BB2008-2} in 1993 marked Derringer’s triumphant return to what he does best: hard edged rocking blues. Two more blues oriented releases followed in the ‘90’s followed, “Electra Blues”(BB2023-2) and “Blues Deluxe” (BB2039-2). Derringer’s next blues offering, was the highly touted “Jackhammer Blues” which stayed true to the tradition, running the gamut from grinding blues to steaming shuffles.
Derringer’s latest blues offering “Knighted By The Blues” follows in the tradition of this renowned guitarists greatest recordings and further showcases his intensity and prowess on the guitar that digs deep into Derringer’s roots. “Knighted By The Blues” is Derringer’s first blues record in over a decade to feature predominately Derringer’s original blues oriented compositions.
